What is oral diagnosis?
Oral diagnosis is the main discipline in the diagnosis and treatment planning of oral disease and oral systemic disease in dentistry.
Only rotten teeth and inflamed gums can be seen in the mouth. As accepted all over the world, the jaw bones and joints, salivary glands, tongue and all the soft tissues seen in oral diseases are linked to dentistry. Although these structures and tissues cover a small area, they form an anatomically complex structure.
Many systemic diseases also show distinct symptoms in the mouth. A separate scientific discipline was required, and Oral Diagnosis and Radiology took care of that.
Dental films
Dental x-rays, namely dental films, are the most important diagnostic tools for diagnosing intraoral diseases, especially in hard tissue such as teeth and jawbones. The two most common types of dental films are periapical (small films with 2-3 teeth) and panoramic films (large films showing all of the upper and lower teeth and the jawbone). In addition, MR and CT are the films that can be requested as adjuncts in diagnosing joint diseases, especially implant applications.
Advanced radiography techniques
3D computerized tomography can be easily diagnosed using 3D computerized tomography equipment that cannot be diagnosed using other radiographic methods.
Diagnosis and treatment
With all of these methods, we can easily identify and diagnose the remaining 2/3 of the tooth structure visible in the mouth and the structures such as inflammation and embedded teeth in the jawbone. A good diagnosis enables precise treatment planning. In this way, all necessary treatment needs are identified at an early stage and further problems in the future are avoided.
In the Oral Diagnostics and Radiology Department, your personal and medical information in the patient record will never be shared with third parties in accordance with our privacy policy.
After the first records of all patients in the Oral Diagnosis and Radiology department, their examination is carried out in detail. Then one or more dental films are taken depending on the treatment needs and the entire treatment plan is determined.
According to the treatment plan, our patients are referred to specialists and treatments are initiated. It is the duty of our department to answer all questions regarding the treatment plan and the duration of our patients.
