What is an implant?

Implants that are placed in the jawbone as a result of implant treatment have such a natural appearance that it is very difficult to tell them apart from real teeth. The stages of implantation
- Investigation
This phase can consist of medical and dental exams. If the general state of health of the patient is suitable for an implantation, the dentist will decide on the type and length of the implant to be used based on a special X-ray and the condition of the teeth in the mouth. In this phase it is extremely important that the doctor who decides on the implant and the subsequent prosthesis is experienced in this regard and that the planning is carried out together with the oral surgeon who will insert the implant.
- Operation
The surgery should be done by the oral surgeon. The doctor who made the prosthesis must also attend the operation and help ensure that it goes as planned. The implant is inserted through local treatment. The incision is made in the gums and the position of the implant to be inserted is opened on the bone with suitable utensils. In this position, the implant is also inserted with special utensils. The process can take 30-90 minutes depending on the number of implants to be used.
- Healing phase
After the implant is inserted, it takes some time for it to attach to the bone. This lasts at least 3 months. During this time, a temporary prosthesis can be applied to the patient if necessary. Patients can eat normally without direct pressure from chewing. The doctor who inserted the implant will call the patient for checks at certain intervals during the healing phase and can request a new X-ray if necessary.
- Placement of the upper structure of the implant
After the healing phase is complete and the implant has completely enclosed itself with new bone, the upper structure is placed on the implant.
- Manufacture of the prosthesis
The prosthesis to be produced is measured with a suitable impression material. The prosthesis can be in the form of a single crown, bridge, partial or full prosthesis.
